“I will write peace on your wings, and you will fly all over the world.” -Sadako Sasaki

When words fail or sorrow breaks, I fold orizuru as a reminder that hope can rise in even the bleakest of times. For me, orizuru hold not only hope, but a commitment and an intention--to fold peace into our actions, not just our words. This card is for demonstrating care, love, understanding, sympathy, and empathy to a loved one in a tangible way. To hold impossible things in tension and let there be peace and kindness and togetherness in the midst of them.

ABOUT ORIZURU // The orizuru (folded crane) is a meaningful symbol and a movement for peace deepened by the story of Sadako Sasaki, a Hiroshima survivor who died at 12 from leukemia ( ‘A-bomb disease’). While in the hospital, her friend Chizuka shared with her how orizuru are sacred birds that live 100 years, and if you fold 1,000 of them, you’ll get well. Together, they folded for herself and others until Sadako’s death.

“I believe that what our hands are doing can teach our hearts.” - Masahiro Sasaki (Sadako’s brother + peace activist)
