description
A free virtual gathering to raise our voices in creative protest to support Palestinians. Creatives of ALL mediums are invited to engage their artistic voices in a safe and loving space. Whether you write, draw, dance, art journal, or use any other creative outlet, you are welcome.
Our hope is for every person who joins to feel less alone and more brave in speaking out against violence, occupation, and genocide. As many people turn away or try to make justifications, we have the opportunity to use our voices to call out oppression. We are stronger together.
INTENTION // Our time will be centered on holding and sharing space to create something (i.e. a drawing, info-graphic, hand-lettered quote) to then share on social media, to family/friends, or in newsletters and communications.
WHAT TO EXPECT //
- We'll start the time with a somatic mindfulness exercise to help us take care as we create.
- We'll then use a variety of prompts to spark ideas and responses, including art by Palestinian artists + other creatives who are speaking out about what's happening.
- As we near the end of our time together, we'll share some resources to help you continue advocacy, including tips for how to take care when speaking out and links to Palestinian journalists to stay informed.
- Following the gathering, the hosts will be creating a digital zine (possibly a hard copy) to raise funds for Palestinian relief and refugees. You will have the choice to opt-in for your creation to be included.
FREE WITH RSVP
- This event is free, but we need an RSVP so you can receive the Zoom info and any materials/resources.
- Once you RSVP here, mark your calendars, and you'll be all set!
- Prior to the event, you'll receive an email from Kimberly Kuniko at hello(at)lacelit(dot)com.
- This creativity session will take place in a live Zoom meeting. Download the Zoom app software to a camera- and mic-enabled device that has stable internet service.
COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
- Safe Space // The intention for this gathering is to be a safe and welcoming environment where affirmation and encouragement is abundant. This of course means that all must be treated with respect and care, including using participants’ preferred pronouns. Derogatory or aggressive comments about ability, culture, race, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity will not be tolerated.
- Trauma-Sensitive // We acknowledge the many overwhelming emotions in every body, and while we wish for this to be a safe space to hold and acknowledge it all, this is not a replacement for individual or group therapy. We will do our best to foster a safe place to release and share words that express our feelings, however, we kindly ask that we all refrain from “trauma dumping” or over-sharing personal information. At the start of the event, we'll learn more about what this means and how to be a mindful and embodied trauma-sensitive community.
- Not a Public Forum // This event is NOT a public forum for debate or justification of violence. Anyone doing so will be removed by the hosts.
SPREAD THE WORD // Help us spread the word to others who might like to join us in raising our voices for Palestine.
YOUR HOSTS // This event is a collaboration between 3 artists exploring what it means to use our creative voices for social justice and love.
